Born in 1980, Gilles Pourtier lives and works in Marseille.
After studying Modern Letters, Gilles Pourtier trained at the CERFAV in Nancy and then at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design University College in London. In 2006 he entered the National School of Photography in Arles (ENSP) where he developed a body of work combining photography, sculpture and drawing.
All his work is nourished by literature and philosophical concepts.
Adept of different media and techniques, the mixture of learned and popular cultures is for him an evidence, photography being however his main means of expression, neither conceptual photography, nor aesthetic research but rather an investigative approach like an ethnographer.
Through his creations, he establishes a diary, his images telling a story that belongs to him alone because he never appears in the image.
His works are regularly shown in France and abroad.
Gilles Pourtier was born in 1980 in the Drôme region of France. After studying Modern Literature, he trained at the Centre Européen de Recherche et de Formation aux Arts Verriers (CERFAV) in Nancy.
