Myung Urso est née et a grandi en Corée du Sud. Elle vit dans le nord de l'État de New York, aux États-Unis, depuis 2006. Elle travaille actuellement comme peintre et sculpteur. L'artiste Myung a étudié et pratiqué l'art de la calligraphie coréenne tout au long de sa vie qu'elle est venue complétée par des études supérieures en art de la fibre, du textile. Plus récemment, elle a travaillé sur des compositions simples, encrées dans une approche réductrice et minimaliste, en utilisant principalement des tissus naturels bruts, avec divers matériaux colorés tels que l'encre, la peinture acrylique, le pigment et la teinture liquide.
"Observer l'évolution de mon imagination pour savoir comment elle se transforme en œuvre d'art est l'expérience la plus intrigante qui soit. Poursuivre une idée sans croquis préliminaire, à l'instinct, permets d'obtenir des résultats inattendus. Le plus souvent, mon processus de travail est plus ouvert à la spontanéité et à l'intuition, plutôt que dicté par un plan préétabli. Je donne aux différents éléments de composition et aux matériaux la liberté d'interagir librement, ce qui contribue à définir le destin de chaque œuvre.
Mon langage visuel s'inspire des lignes et des formes simples de la nature, du soleil, de la lune, de la terre et du corps humain. Je considère consciemment et inconsciemment les effets spatiaux au sein d'une composition pour capturer un espace qui devient méditatif dans chaque œuvre. Mon travail récent est est à la fois symboliques et métaphoriques, une interprétation personnelle du paysage en tant que poésie visuelle."
Myung Urso
Avant que Myung s'oriente vers la peinture et la sculpture, elle a travaillé pendant plus de 15 ans dans le domaine du bijou d'art. Au cours de cette période, elle a participé activement à de nombreuses expositions collectives et a organisé huit expositions individuelles aux États-Unis, en Chine et en Europe. Ses bijoux sont aujourd'hui dans les collections permanentes de plusieurs musées aux États-Unis, notamment le Museum of Fine Arts de Boston, le Museum of Art & Design de New York, le Dallas Museum of Art et le Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
Myung est titulaire d'une licence en biologie, d'une maîtrise en arts plastiques de l'université Hongik de Séoul (Corée) et d'une maîtrise en gestion de musée et de galerie de la City University de Londres (Royaume-Uni). Au cours de sa carrière professionnelle, elle a occupé les postes de directrice de galerie/conservatrice pour la Hand & Mind Gallery, de reporter principal pour le magazine Monthly Craft & Design et de professeur auxiliaire dans plusieurs universités de Séoul, en Corée.
